Miau is a realistic novel by Spanish writer Benito Pérez Galdós, released in It tells a story about a middle-low class family of Madrid in the 19th century. The main character is Ramón Villaamil, an ex-employée from the Ministry of Economy and Finance. This becomes a theme of great importance in the works of Galdós from Fortunata y Jacinta onwards, for example in Miau () and his final novel La razón de la sinrazón. All through his literary career, Galdós incurred the wrath of the Catholic press.
