Miau is a realistic novel by Spanish writer Benito Pérez Galdós, released in It tells a story about a middle-low class family of Madrid in the 19th century. The main character is Ramón Villaamil, an ex-employée from the Ministry of Economy and Finance. This becomes a theme of great importance in the works of Galdós from Fortunata y Jacinta onwards, for example in Miau () and his final novel La razón de la sinrazón. All through his literary career, Galdós incurred the wrath of the Catholic press. Benito Pérez Galdós, (born , Las Palmas, Canary Islands, Spain—died January 4, , Madrid), writer who was regarded as the greatest Spanish novelist since Miguel de enormous output of short novels chronicling the history and society of 19th-century Spain earned him comparison with Honoré de Balzac and Charles Dickens.
